Cabview ICM/ICMm
« on: Sunday 13 September, 2015, 19:24:45 »
Downloaded the Cabview for( MSTS) ICM/ICMm  from this site
Followed the Read me to the letter.
All copy and paste, so no typing errors.
The file is in and saved, yet there is no change.
Wonder what I am doing wrong
Running Win 8.1, MSTS with Open Rails.
Hope anybody can help?

I think you either:

- Installed to the wrong path (install again and make sure you install to the correct MSTS installation, and delete the other one)

- Didn't run the installer with adminstrator privileges (win 8 especially doesn't like this, do it again with "run as administrator")

Thanks Steve for trying to help, I guess I do not understand.
Downloaded to Program Files( x86)MicrosoftGames/Trainsimulator as suggested.
Changed and saved the Eng file with the file in Read me(copy and paste), with the koploper of my choice.
Also ran with administrator.
The train is still there, but no cabview at all, period.
Tried putting koploper and also ICM on the end of the path, no luck there either.
Perhaps it is Open Rails not allowing the change?
Really appreciated your help.
Grs from Canada, Anthony.

WOW, 195 keer gelezen.
Niemand van deze lezers heeft dit Cabview, en kan mij daarmee helpen?
My excuses for being a Newbie.

That's no problem, don't forget that the reads are not only people that could help you, they can be non-posting members, non-members or search engines (if I'm not mistaken), or a moderator without knowledge of the subject just checking the topic.

The difficulty is that MSTS isn't the most active train simulator anymore, which means that some of the knowledge is fading. I tried to find what the problem exactly is, but some parts of your description are a bit fuzzy to me, and because I was busy over the last few weeks I wasn't in the opportunity to ask you to clear it up.

So here are my questions:
At first: what is the exact location of the CVF file on your system (it would be nice to have the complete path of the cvf file)? And second: can you paste the line in the engine file (.eng) for me, ideally accompanied by the path of the engine file?

Having both the answers should clear up what could be your problem, and maybe we can help you then with simply changing some locations and references.
Groet,
Robert

The first line is the path search for the .CVF file
The second line is the path to the Eng file
Below is what I changed it to according to the Read Me

C:\programfiles (x86)\microsoftgames\trainsimulator\trains\trainset\ChristrainsNSkoploper\commom.cab\koploper

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\TRAINS\TRAINSET\ChrisTrains NS Koploper

 CabView ( ..\\..\\common.cab\\Koploper\\Koploper.cvf )
 HeadOut (  1.5 4.1 11 )

The Read me tells me to download the Cabview file to just the train simulator
Thanks very much for your help, Anthony

Hi anthony,

The path where the new ICM-cabview should be installed (according to the cabview-line in the .eng-file) is:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\TRAINS\TRAINSET\commom.cab\koploper
Groeten,

Many thanks to Robert and Jeroen.
I think I have a different problem here, either the computer or me.
I unzip the Cabine file to" extract files," put in the path and that where I get stuck,
Get the message underneath, "Error. cannot open output file.
Guess I will have to resolve this first as the file goes nowhere.
Appreciate your patience.
Anthony.

Hi again,
To follow up on my problems and for everybody who helped. the cab view is in.
Re-installed trainsimulator under C:\MSTS only and got rid of most problems, also the Administrator.
The Cabview is nice but in my beginners opinion,
The frosted windshield takes away from the vivid colours of the scenery, and
forget driving at night, very little headlights.
Thanks everyone for your help.
Anthony.

That thing with the colors and the headlights are design choices made by the one who programmed this cabview/engfile. And while what you prefer may differ from what he or she did, this does not mean you are stuck with that decision. Do you know things like this are actually pretty easy to adjust to your own tastes? Adjusting the brightness of the windows requires a little image editing (not much), and adjusting the headlights is as easy as changing the right values in the right places in the right files...  ;)

If you're interested in that, I'd be willing to explain how it's done.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for your response.
I was hoping that this could be changed, but have no idea how.
The Cabview by itself is fantastic.
Yes, I would be very interested if you could help me with that.
Thanks for your time,      Anthony.

To make your windows fully transparent, just change the grey colors in the cab's .ace file's alpha channel to black. The darker that color, the more transparent the window will become. To do this you'll need TGATool2 and any image editor, and send the alpha channel of the appropriate file to the editor of your choice, and then save it in your editor and reload it in TGATool, and save it from there. Search google for "MSTS repainting" if you want a more detailed explanation.

To change the brightness of the lights you need to open all the eng and/or wag files of said rolling stock, look for the "Lights" part of the file, and increase every radius value in there. This will also change how they appear from the outside, so be aware of what you're doing.

Hi Steve,
The lights are no problem, they were set at 40, some trains have 400 there, I am increasing it slowly.
Probably do not understand the windshield.
Tried opening the ace file to find alpha, but all I get is a lot of tutti frutti.
Will keep trying,  Thanks.

Hi Steve,
Did find everything and all my windows are clear now, but not at the same time.
Looking through the front, the sides are solid grey. looking through the side windows. the front becomes solid grey, and I mean solid, what am I missing?
Hope you have a suggestion for me. I do run OR.
Gr. Anthony

You probably messed up the alpha channel. Take another good look at the alpha channel.

Yes, you're probably right.
Seems funny to me .that I can clear one window, while the others dull up, without touching those files.
Anybody have an idea about this?
I have registered!
Anthony.

The other windows might be contained in the same file. Or maybe MSTS has difficulties of handling 2 different types of alpha in a cab. Only think I can think of. But I think you accidentily edited something.

Found a file(1024) which displayed 3 windows in MS paint.
As a result I have 3 clear windows now, only foggy when I switch to a side window.
I can live with that.
Thanks for your help.

When you switch to a side view, a new image file will be opened, probably named left or right. These have to be changed as well. In MSTS the cabview is made of 3 image files, it's not a 3d cabview.

Indeed, you can find their filenames by looking inside the .cvf file.

Cabview C ..\\..\\common.cab\\Koploper\\Koplover.cvf  )

Quote from: Readme van de cabview
Installatiewijze: draai de installer en verander in de .eng file van de koplopers die moeten worden aangepast de waarde:
CabView ( * ) in CabView ( ..\\..\\common.cab\\Koploper\\Koploper.cvf )
Dus zoek eerst de regel in de eng-file die begint met "CabView" en wijzig deze in de gegeven waarde.
